‘The Masked Singer’ Episode 3 Recap
The episode featured 2 head-to-head battles: The Flower vs. The Eagle and The Penguin vs. The Fox.
The Flower was the first to sing. After her clue package, she sang “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton and it was immediately clear that a professional singing legend is behind the mask. The Eagle battled back with a performance of “I’d Do Anything for Love” by Meat Loaf. The Eagle commanded the stage and engaged with the audience, giving an entertaining performance, but he didn’t give the impression that he’s a singer by profession.
Although the Eagle gave a great performance and had the audience and judges laughing, the Flower was voted the winner, which meant the Eagle would have to battle in a sudden death round at the end of the show for the chance at staying in the competition.
For the second head-to-head battle of the night, the Penguin sang “The Middle” by Zedd, while the Fox chose to perform “This Love” by Maroon 5. Both gave great performances, but the Fox’s star quality commanding the stage and his excellent singing voice earned him the win over the Penguin.
The smackdown was bird vs. bird as the Eagle and Penguin faced off one last time to avoid getting unmasked. The Eagle sang “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’” by Nancy Sinatra, and the judges said he sounded like Jeff Foxworthy. Penguin sang “Worth It” by Fifth Harmony and was not shy about dancing and getting in the Eagle’s face during her performance.
In the end, the Penguin beat the Eagle, which means the Eagle was eliminated and had to be unmasked. Which means, tonight we learned that the Eagle’s celebrity identity.
The Eagle Was Unmasked & His Celebrity Identity Was…
… Dr. Drew Pinsky!
Dr. Drew is known as a celebrity doctor and media personality. Loveline was a major clue, as was the radio tuned to 106.7. There was also a reference to Lincoln, as a nod to Dr. Drew’s obsession with Abraham Lincoln.
None of the judges guessed his identity correctly, and they commented on how surprised they were that he acted like such a rock star on stage. For their final guesses, Jenny McCarthy guessed Howard Stern or Adam Carolla, and Robin Thicke agreed that Howard Stern was his final guess. Ken Jeong also guessed that a talk show host was behind the mask; he guessed Craig Ferguson. Nicole Scherzinger guessed Jeff Foxworthy.
