James Gunn Releases New Guardians of the Galaxy’s Set Photos

Director James Gunn celebrates the six-year anniversary of Guardians of the Galaxy with new photos from the film’s set. The first movie followed the adventures of the galaxy’s resident charming scoundrel, Peter Quill, (also known by his nickname, Star-Lord), after he steals a mysterious orb containing one of the powerful Infinity Stones. Quill teams up Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Racoon, Groot, and Thanos’ adopted daughter, Gamora, to sell the orb so Ronan the Accuser can’t wield its extraordinary power.

The first Guardians of the Galaxy movie premiered back in 2014 during phase two of the MCU. Gunn’s film about a lesser-known group of MCU characters that weren’t that interested in being heroic was a critically acclaimed hit. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 followed in 2017, and after some drama with Disney, Gunn is returning to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is reportedly set to begin filming next year. While Gunn is still finishing up The Suicide Squad, he has now shared a never-before-seen look at his first Marvel adventure.

Gunn celebrated the six-year anniversary of the fan-favorite film by releasing never-before-seen set photos. The fun pictures include Gunn with many of the main cast. From Chris Pratt (Star-Lord/Peter Quill), Lee Pace (Ronan the Accuser), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), to Gunn’s own brother Sean Gunn (Kraglin) and Michael Rooker (Yondu) with an adorable dog. What made Guardians of the Galaxy so special to the point where the movie is still adored by fans six years later? Under Gunn’s directorial lens, the rag-tag group of anti-heroes that nobody really knew about transformed into a hilarious team of characters that helped save the galaxy. Quill and company were a refreshing change from the usual valiant MCU heroes like Captain America because they initially had no desire to be heroes. Thus, watching them come together as a team to defeat Ronan during the movie’s finale was incredibly satisfying in terms of their respective character growth. And nothing beats the incredibly emotional moment when Groot sacrificed himself for the team. It will definitely be interesting to see how Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 compares, especially after the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Fans have to wait a while for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but they will no doubt enjoy seeing never-before-seen photos from the first film in the series. Marvel has die-hard fans when it comes to comic books and movies, so any new look at behind-the-scenes images or videos will be appreciated. Many Marvel fans are likely celebrating the anniversary of Guardians of the Galaxy alongside Gunn today, but anything Marvel-related is going to get extra attention since people have gotten very few superhero-related announcements thanks to the Coronavirus.
