Jamie Samuelsen Death

Jamie Samuelsen passed away Saturday, August 1, 2020, at the age of 48, after battling colon cancer since January of 2019. Detroit News columnist Bob Wojnowski announced the news on Twitter.

Wojnowski tweeted: “I am so sad and sorry to pass this along, at the family’s request. Jamie Samuelsen, the best damn friend you could ever have, a tremendous broadcaster on @971theticketxyt passed away tonight at 48. He was surrounded by his wonderful family, and he went peacefully.”

On July 27, 2020, Jamie Samuelsen revealed he was battling colon cancer, after keeping his diagnosis private for 19 months.

He said during his Monday morning show on The Ticket: “Each morning since my diagnosis, I got up, turned on the radio mic and got to talk sports. I needed the escape from cancer, just like so many of our listeners who face hardships, grief and illness, too, they turned to us in the morning for some levity in this crazy world. So I wanted to continue to have fun and not let cancer get in the way of doing what I loved. Connecting with listeners, laughing, teasing Stoney, all of it, it helped me be normal, while continuing to fight this disease.”

He urged listeners to go get a colonoscopy, saying, “More people under the age of 50 are being diagnosed with colon cancer than ever before and colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths. Make sure you talk with your doctor — and get that colonoscopy.”

Due to a recent infection, Samuelsen was forced to take a few days off. He was determined to put on a good fight saying, “It’s a battle. It goes on. I don’t want to make it sound like this is any sort of goodbye, because it’s not.”
